Rome is a city with long history, so there’s no wonder why so many monuments of past epochs have survived here. The famous Arch of Constantine, the first mention of which relates to 315 AD, is one of the most striking monuments of past centuries. The height of the arch estimates 21 meters. Today it is decorated with beautiful bas-reliefs and statues left over from other historic sites. The castle of St. Angel is a grand architectural structure. Originally the site of the building was the location of the Mausoleum of Hadrian. The castle was built approximately in the early 2nd century AD. During the Middle Ages the castle was the papal fortress, then a prison, and then one of major defensive fortifications. Visitors of the castle will find much interesting in the armory room. Don’t forget to go to the castle’s courtyard walk through the spacious terrace, which offers a magnificent panoramic view. The western part of the city is the location of a beautiful Cathedral of St. Peter. This is a unique religious monument, the halls of which hold priceless relics. Royal Palace of Caserta

Royal Palace in Caserta is the largest building of the 18th century in Europe. That’s why it deserves a lot of touristic and architectural attention. The palace is covering an area of about 245 000 m2. There have placed 1200 rooms. It is unbelievable but the palace was built in 28 years from 1752 until 1780. The wonderful palace is surrounded by a huge park area. On its territory, you can see a lot of nice fountains and sculptures. The park has a great number of rare plants and trees.

Old Town of Pienza

The smallest town of Tuscany – Pienza – is one of the nicest in this area. Its population is not so big - just 2 000 people. Today it is quite hard to imagine that earlier on this territory was placed a small village. At the beginning of the 15th century Pius PP. II has rebuilt this village in a large town in Renaissance style. In 1459 the town has drastically changed.

Pius PP. II was born there and did his best for converting the village into a luxurious town. Pienza was the first European town which was built according to the accurate plan. Later all cities were built in such way. There were saved the Medieval buildings, today they are of a great value. In the centre of the historical area has placed a wonderful conciliar Church and several marvellous palaces.
