Botanical Garden of Padua

In Padova you can find the oldest botanic garden of the world. It was set up in 1545. The garden was a special place for medicinal herbs production that was used at the faculty of the medical university. It was under the umbrella and locked with a high forbidding fence.

At the end of the 17th century there were built new greenhouses and other necessary buildings. On the cusp of 17-18th centuries, the botanic garden was drastically renovated. Nice fountains and several sculptural compositions in the antique style are decorating the garden too. This botanic garden occupies an area of 22 000 square meters.
