Winter Palace

The Winter Palace remains one of the most famous and visited attractions of the cultural capital of Russia. It was built in 1754. Construction was completed in 1762. The legendary architect Rastrelli worked on the design of the palace. It is noteworthy that the very first Winter Palace was built in its place in 1708. It has been completely rebuilt five times in less than 50 years. The palace was used for its intended purpose from its foundation until 1904, as the official winter residence of Russian emperors.
