It is a miracle that they have managed to survive to this day. One of such monuments is the Resurrection Cathedral built in the 14th century. Originally, the church was wooden. It was rebuilt of stone in the middle of the 18th century. The cathedral has remained unchangeable since that time. Only some part of its roof was partially renovated in the 19th century.
The spectacular and unusual construction is Nativity Church. It was founded over 500 years ago. The first church at its site had existed for almost 200 years. Authorities had no money for reconstructing the church, so it was dilapidated and destroyed completely. The new church was constructed here in 1789. Like other churches in the city, it was abolished after the enthronement of the Soviet authority in 1931. It was partially destroyed not so long ago but then was reconstructed completely in 1997. Now, it impresses with its incredibly beautiful exterior. Towers with snow-white walls interestingly contrast with black towers and domes. The cathedral had exactly this exterior before the Revolution.
