The city was founded in the middle of the 16th century and due to a long history, its name was changed thrice. Originally it bore the name of Tsaritsyn, and in 1925 it was decided to rename the city Stalingrad. This name it bore during the war, which explains the name of the legendary battle. Renaming to Volgograd took place in 1961, and more recently the issue of renaming the city again became relevant. Motherland Calls Sculpture
