North Male Atoll offers its guests perfect conditions for water sports and beach vacation. For example, it’s, of course, diving. There are several wonderful marine reserves in the local waters. Specialists particularly recommend diving on the outside of reefs as it’s where you can watch a bunch of tropical fishes, mollusks and the most fascinating corals. These trips are usually for professionals as there are undercurrents on the outside. To make your dives as safe as it’s possible, you have to get a special drift-diver certificate.

Underwater caves covered with corals where thousands of fishes swim are extremely breathtaking as well, you can see them on Banana Reef near Hulhule Island. There are perfect conditions for beginners there. First of all, diving schools where you can take courses, rent equipment and dive with an experienced instructor are almost on every island. Secondly, you don’t have to go too deep to enjoy seeing reefs. Water is absolutely clear here, so you can see 40-50 meters down. Due to good visibility and abundance of sea flora and fauna, snorkeling is really popular here. You don’t need any special skills for it, so it’s perfect both for kids and adults. You’ll be taken to the best point for snorkeling in your resort’s water area by a motorboat.

Apart from thousands of divers who are attracted here by the beauty of the local underwater world and fantastically clear waters, lots of surfers come to North Male Atoll every year. Their beloved destination is Thulusdhoo. The best and highest waves appear there quite often. But you have to get there by boat first. It’s not peaceful for surfing, so, if you seriously want to conquer waves, the best time to come to the atoll for it is from the end of April till October.

The atoll is located in the way it’s perfectly good for windsurfing as well as sailing. Resort islands arrange sea safari for their guests, so you actually have a choice. You can go for a night fishing on a traditional fishing boat, visit several uninhabited islands and even stay there for the whole night, have an exciting excursion to those islands where native tribes love.

There are no nigh entertainments here on North Male. You won’t find any dance parties or night clubs even in the capital. Bars are only in hotels. So, you can just have a night walk around a park or an embankment, spend time in a restaurant or enjoy night sky sitting on a sea coast.

Nightlife is far more entertaining on resorts, surely. You’ll be able to have a good time, learn about Maldivians’ dance and music traditions and even participate in ritual group dances. Parties and music shows are almost every night there, local music bands, DJs and national dance groups also perform for the guests.
