More to see in Kaş
Archaeologists have been working on the territory of the town and its nearby surroundings for many years. They have managed to find new constructions in places when ancient towns were located. The starting point of most of the sightseeing tours is a small square near the port where the monument to Atatürk is situated. There are several popular restaurants, gift shops, tiny hotels and tourist information centers. After walking along the shady square, you should definitely go up one of the streets to the hilltop where the major historical symbol of Kas, The Lion's Tomb, is located. The stone sarcophagus having an impressive size has miraculously survived to this day. It gained its name due to its unusual decorations — lions’ head carved from the stone in the upper part of the sarcophagus. Several beautiful age-old trees grow near the tomb. The hill has a spectacular panoramic view of the coastal areas of Kas. In the coastal areas, there are also several important ancient constructions including a small amphitheater. It was completely renovated by archaeologists and now is a place where the most interesting cultural events including wrestling competitions are held. A lot of travelers visit these places in the evenings, as the ancient amphitheater is a perfect place to admire a sunset. Another attractive place for walks is located near the amphitheater. This is an embankment, along which rows of trees grow and where popular culinary venues are situated. … Read further
