Sarajevo is a unique city, which has managed to preserve its "oriental" style and appearance even in the post-war time. The city is dotted with many narrow streets. You will easily find here numerous mosques and the picturesque old Turkish bazaar.

Sarajevo is decorated with small city trams that seem to run away from time. Endless small cafes and cozy restaurants can be easily found on the main trade area of the city named Bascarsija. Besides them you will find here many jewelry stores, souvenir shops and small pastries. In addition to this there are two famous squares in the city. These are Gazi Husrev-beg, which is known as the former important point of the Silk Road, and Pigeon Square, on which you will really find whole flocks of pigeons.

Some Orthodox places of interest have survived after the civil war in Sarajevo. These are Cathedral Church of the Virgin Mary, the old Church of Saint Gabriel and Michael, the Old Synagogue (one of three surviving), which now holds the exhibition of the Jewish Museum with the famous Code of the Haggadah, the City Hall built in the Moorish style, and the Cathedral built in the XVIII century. The buildings that have been preserved in Sarajevo since the reign of Osman dominate in the architectural ensemble of the city. The city also suggests a number of charming natural attractions. Vrelo Bosne Reserve is a really great place for hiking. This is a historic park. It was founded during the Austro-Hungarian period. Over the war years, the extensive park area came to desolation. Only in 2000, local activists started renovating the natural oasis. Now, there're many paths for hiking and cycling in the park. Visitors can even ride a horse. You'll find many friendly animals and birds. Tourists come here especially to feed them.

One of the magnificent old palaces houses the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 1945. The museum exposition includes over 300000 unique pieces concerning the most diverse aspects of the country's history and culture. Visitors can enjoy collections of old books, works of art, photographs and documents, as well as exhibits dedicated to wartime difficult for the country.

An old brewery, founded in 1864, remained in Sarajevo. Now, it is one of the important sightseeing objects.
