Guam is the largest island of Mariana Islands located in the south of the archipelago, on the west side of the Pacific Ocean and not far away from Mariana Trench – the deepest place in the world where often appear typhoons that later reach South-East Asia. The island is situated almost on the equator. Historically Guam was created in the result of merging of two volcano tops. Both volcanoes came under water millions of years ago. Climatic and geographic conditions, history, traditions and culture of Guam don’t have any serious differences from other islands of Mariana Archipelago. Tourists traditionally try to visit this calm and peaceful place because of large number of monuments and museums that are located in Guam, as well as because of tropical beaches and numerous waterfalls present on the island. Large number of columns (‘latte’) of old houses keeps the evidences of ancient Chamorro people who lived in Guam centuries ago. Here you can also see their rock paintings. Historical Park “Pacific War” and the Museum of Guam located in Agana perfectly reflect the history of the island and are very entertaining for visitors of this place.
