At the foothills of the Julian Alps, thirty-two kilometers from Ljubljana Airport, there is the gorgeous Lake Bled. The town with the same name is situated at the lakeshore. Bled is an enchanting place with its own unique nature supplied by the healing thermal springs. In summer, water in the Lake Bled warms up to eighteen – twenty four degrees by Celsius. The surface of the lake almost never gets frozen in winter except for periods of extreme cold. This peculiarity differs the lake from other water reservoirs of the region. Thanks to it, Lake Bled is great for tourism all year round.
This resort is a fantastic place to relax with friends, family, and even with small children. The beauty of the region will strike you as soon as you arrive in this paradise-like place. It is simply impossible not to notice how generous nature is in this part of the country. The area is not deprived of various architectural landmarks, but a big number of thermal springs are the main attraction that Bled is famous for. Tourists, who want to swim in the lake, should visit the resort in the period from July to September. Swimming is available during these months. The history of the town started with a large castle called Bled Castle. This was an impenetrable fortress that was a part of the bishop’s property. At that time, the castle was the bishop’s residence. Nothing changed until the 19th century – the castle changed owners and became a private estate in the mid-19th century. Later, the first railroad appeared not far from the castle. It marked the start of developing tourism in this gorgeous region.
According to an old take, the castle owner’s widow ordered to make a bell to honor her deceased husband killed by bandits. However, a storm destroyed the boat that was transferring the ready bell to the chapel on the island. The memorable bell sank in the lake. After that, the widow went to Rome and told her sad story. The Pope heard it and ordered to make a new bell that was later sent to the island mentioned above. The story about the first bell is still alive, and some locals say that it is sometimes possible to hear that bell deep in the lake’s water.
This amazing, marvelous place has one good tradition that local people always follow during wedding ceremonies. There is a tall staircase with almost a hundred steps that starts at the lake. The groom must go up the staircase while holding his bride to show that he is ready to get married and make a family.
Bled has two comfortable beaches for guests of the resort. One of these beaches is situated not far from the Park hotel. This is a beach with a well-developed infrastructure perfect for recreation. All members of the family can relax here, enjoy the tender sun, listen to birds singing, and restore their peace of mind. Of course, everyone can order a ride to the island in the middle of the lake where they can make a wish. That being said, the entrance to the beach is paid.
Besides that, there is a free beach in Bled, but this one doesn’t have any infrastructure. This beach is located opposite to the Vila Bled hotel. Despite the fact that this is a public place, the beach is clean and quite charming. There is, however, one drawback – this beach can be very crowded during the tourist season. Nevertheless, a cozy atmosphere and warm lake water will make you forget about some noise. Overall, this is a wonderful place to relax together with friends or family members. Moreover, visitors can try horseback riding, playing tennis or golf, and make a memorable cycling tour to the mountains.
