Alonissos is not the biggest island of the Aegean sea. However, those who enjoy long walks will find routes of different difficulty and length. You can reach Chora in less than an hour, following the steep road. There are amazing views which won’t live anybody indifferent. You can also go to Gérakas, a shepherd village. But the way to the settlement is quite long. But you don’t have to move on foot, you can take a bus or rent a car, a motorbike or a bicycle. Diving fans will love the island. Alonissos is a part of the National Marine Park which was established in 1992 in order to protect monk seals and other sea inhabitants. The wildlife is not the only interesting thing on the island. The pearl of Alonissos is an ancient sunken ship which displacement exceeded 100 tons. Before the moment when the ship was found, it was believed that Greeks didn’t have enough information about navigation to build such a capacious vessel.
