Diving fans will love the island. Alonissos is a part of the National Marine Park which was established in 1992 in order to protect monk seals and other sea inhabitants. The waters of Alonissos are rich with different flora and fauna species. Sometimes divers meet monk seals in the sea. But the animals are very shy and they don’t swim close to the shore and divers.
The wildlife is not the only interesting thing on the island. The pearl of Alonissos is an ancient sunken ship which displacement exceeded 100 tons. If you love pebble beaches, be sure to visit Megalos Mourtias. Vrisitsa and Vythisma are nice beaches too, but it is hard to reach the second one without a boat.
