The port city's most striking and significant attraction is, perhaps, Klaipėdos Pilis. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1252. It had a strategically important location and had defended the city from attacks for many centuries until it lost its value in the 19th century. Lying in ruins, it still has functioning castle bastions. It is worth noting that the castle has survived many historical events and saved the city more than once. A more detailed story will be demonstrated on guided tours of the castle and its museum (Pilies Muziejus). During the tour, one can learn a lot of interesting facts about the Second World War, the Teutonic Order and the castle itself, with all artifacts found on its territory.
Walking along the embankment of the Dane River, you can discover an unusual attraction - namely, the sailing vessel Meridianas, which is today used as a restaurant. The ship itself was built in Finland after the Second World War, but after it was practically incapacitated, it was decided to repair it. Now such a beautiful ship adorns Klaipeda's harbor. Even if there is no desire to eat here, it's still worth looking at this magnificent creation of engineering genius. An interesting site for tourists is the Birzos Tiltas Bridge, which, very probably, was once crossed by princes and hetmans. It is especially beautiful at night when the lights are lit, giving a special charm to this place.

A wonderful monument of sacred art is Klaipėdos Šv. Kazimiero Bažnyčia, which was built in 1992 in a style typical of the architecture of that time. The architect, Richard Kristapavicius, has managed to construct a functional but at the same time beautiful building. Many travelers and locals love to visit this church because of its acoustics characteristics and a spacious atmosphere that reigns here. The shrine of Klaipėdos Mykolo Apvaizdos Cerkvė built in 2000 in a truly Orthodox style (that is, having a crossed-dome architecture) draws general attention. It is worth noting the shrine's rich interior with beautiful murals on the walls.
The main university in town occupying a no less interesting building from an architectural point of view is Klaipeda University. Despite its relatively young age (founded in 1991), it has already managed to make for itself a worthy place among other universities in Europe. As for the building, it was constructed in 1903 by German architects in neo-Gothic style. There used to be buildings for military personnel, guardhouses and headquarters (6 buildings in total), which during the 20th century (before the decision to establish here an educational institution) belonged to German, French, Soviet and Lithuanian forces.

Iconic cultural sights of Lithuania

One of the most recognizable sights of Lithuania is the Curonian Spit. A thin peninsula stretches along the Baltic Sea for a hundred kilometers to the Kaliningrad region. Now, it is occupied by the National Park, which is famous for its Dancing Forest. Not far from the village of Juodkrante, there is a pine forest on a hill. Locals call it the Mountain of Witches. According to a legend, witches have arranged covenants there since ancient times. Even the main hex didn’t miss the opportunity to visit the feast. It’s believed that witches not only frightened people, but also sent hail, drought, bad weather, and also turned people into rocks. In this place, legends acquire a new sound. They cease to be fairy tales and become folk legends passed from generation to generation in each family. … Open
