The iconic historical symbol of the city is Klaipeda Castle. It was built by Teutonic Knights. For many years, the castle was in desolation. In the middle of the 20th century, it was located on the territory of a large industrial zone and was not accessible. In 1968, the restoration of the castle began, and continues today.
