The Saxon town named Zwickau is internationally renowned due to the fact the world-famous pianist and composer Robert Schumann has been born here. The house-museum of the famous composer is located right beside the town hall. The house, in which has lived the great composer and his wife Clara Vikki, a famous pianist, has become the center of international music competitions. The name of Thomas Munzer is also associated with this town as he has made his famous preaches here. Another interesting building is the house of Gewandhaus cloth guild. This house was built in 1522-1525. Today the city theater is located in this building. You will also find a town hall located just next to it. The decoration of the town hall was created in fifteenth - sixteenth centuries. The clocks with moving figures are particularly popular among tourists.
St Mary's Cathedral was built in 1200. During its history it has survived in several fires, but each time it has been restored. Nowadays the cathedral is still made in the style of the 15th – 16th centuries. The cathedra (Renaissance style) and altar with a cross made of crystal (late Gothic style) are the main decorations of the cathedral. Don’t forget to look at ancient tombstones. In the historical building that has been occupied by the Audi Plant before includes the Museum of August Horch today.
