City break in Tilos Island. Active leisure ideas for Tilos Island - attractions, recreation and nightlife

Not only those who’re fond of historic sites would love Tilos Island but also the ones who prefer active holidays. The island is quite small, so locals prefer to walk rather than use cars. That is why the majority of more or less large settlements and specific natural objects are connected with each other by footpaths. There are about 20 routes of different length. Basically, you can easily find yourself an activity you would like most – from 2-kilometer-long walks, for instance, a trip from Megalo Chorio to Mikro Horio, to real three-day camping with sleeping under the open sky. Mount Profitis Ilias is the highest local mountain from where you can enjoy a picturesque view of the island.
The island inhabitants are quite open and emotional. It’s a common thing here if you meet two Greek men having a heated discussion, using lots of gestures and interrupting each other. … Open
Besides, you can discover the island moving around by bus, too. Or you can go to the capital and rent a bicycle or a car in the local port. The island is a perfect place for bicycle ridings, as traffic here is quite low and, what is more, you can get very close to the most attractions. In case if you’re more interested in discovering secluded bays or remote beaches, then we would recommend you to rent a boat.
There are several beaches with diverse facilities – the largest one is right near the capital – as well as about a dozen of solitary places where you can get to only by water transport. Anyway, if you don’t seek for getting as far from civilized world as possible, a beach nearby Livadhia’s port is a pretty good place too. You would find everything you need there – clean water, a gentle descent while going deeper into the water, equipment rentals, loungers with shades, coast cafes, etc. However, there is a disadvantage: it’s the main beach on the island, so it’s always extremely crowdy. Locals also come there to have a siesta. Copyright www.orangesmile.com

If you want to spend time on your own, go to Eristos Beach in the western part of Tilos.

Agios Antonios Beach which is located near the eponymous village (a couple of miles from the capital) is also highly beautiful. It’s called after Saint Anthony's Chapel (situated not far from the coast). Unfortunately, there is not much left from those magnificent murals owing to World War II. Agios Antonios Beach is tranquil and pretty uncrowded. It’s very nice to do snorkeling there – you can buy the equipment right on the coast. Human skeletons frozen in lava is rather a contradictory local sight. One can see them quite clear during strong undertows. Scientists believe that these are victims of Nisyros volcano eruption which happened about 2,500 thousand years ago.
If you want to try something extreme, rent a tent and go to Plaka bay which is located a couple of kilometres far from Agios Antonios Beach. There is a wonderful clean beach there with no signs of civilization. So, if you don’t mind nudism or just want to take a rest from your typical routine, you can simply spend a few days there on your own with sea and stars.

Those tourists who love fishing would like Tilos Island without a doubt. Many locals do it for the living – as their grandfathers great-grandfathers used to –, so you can rent equipment and a motorboat without any troubles and even hire an instructor. You can fish from the coast or go to the open sea and fully immerse yourself into it.
Moreover, if you have a divers' license, don’t miss to see breath-taking underwater world with your own eyes. The richness of marine life and diverse underwater landscapes attract divers from all around the world each year. Perhaps you’d like to have a break from Tilos’ scenes? Then rent a boat and go to any of the adjacent islands for a day or two. But, as you decide to do it, remember that all the beaches there are primarily pebble.
A choice of hotels on this small island is not as wide, as on the nearby Rhodes. At the same time every accommodation place here can safely be called unique. Almost all hotels are located in … Open
On the whole, Tilos Island is a calm place and its atmosphere and nature are ideal for long walks enjoying surrounding landscapes. Moreover, there is a Greek natural reserve here on the island, so local wildlife is pretty varied as well. If you are especially keen on night clubs, bars and dancing, then we would advise you to reside closer to Livadhia – there are some dance floors right on the beaches – or go to Mikro Horio in the night time. There is a bar in this deserted settlement which is open in summer so you can have great fun in an inexpressible medieval atmosphere.
