Spetses is a small tranquil island, located not far from the Argolic Gulf. The island is a part of the Saronic Islands. Spetses was inhabited at the Bronze Age and it is not a remarkable historical place. It only took part in the Greek War of Independence (the Greek Revolution) in the 19th century. Wealthy people and celebrities choose the island for their holidays. Spetses is not crowded with tourists. This place has amazing nature and it is filled with the Greek atmosphere of relaxation. Older children will be interested in the story of Laskarina Bouboulina. She was a heroine of the Greek War of Independence in 1821. A lot of Spetses attractions are connected with her name. It is known that Laskarina created a small fleet with her own money and took it under her command during the war with Turks. Moreover, after the Turko-Russian War Alexander II invited her to Saint-Petersburg and gave her the title of Admiral and richly decorated scimitar.
