Silkeborg is a fairly young city. Its founder was Michael Durson, who based a small paper mill in a forest at the end of the 19th century. Over time, a village grew up around the factory and turned into a large prosperous city later. Nowadays, Silkeborg is proud of its high-class dealerships. Headquarters of large companies and some financial institutions are located in the city. One of the main symbols of the picturesque town is a beautiful Bölling Lake. It is a unique natural formation. One of the world's oldest glaciers feeds the lake. At the end of the 19th century, the reservoir began to attract researchers from all over the world. In 1870, they drained the lake especially for scientists to conduct a number of important studies. It was during this scientific program that traces of primitive people stay in these places were found. Back in the 19th century, peat plants were erected nearby. Now, the reservoir itself and the adjoining territory are declared a protected zone. You'll find many interesting places for hiking there.
