During your holidays on Serifos, be sure to find the time and opportunity to explore local cuisine. There are many tourists on the island and many catering establishments with American, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian and European dishes. But you should definitely try island cuisine. If you want to find truly Greek dishes, look for cafes located far from touristic places. The majority of the visitors there are Greeks. During your first walk on Sefiros, you can be surprised by a large number of taverns. It's the local mentality. Locals can't imagine their life without an evening in a favourite tavern, where they meet with friends and family. Greeks drink local alcohol, enjoy meals and listen to folk music. So keep in mind that most of the taverns will be crowded after 9 pm, and it will be difficult to find a free table here. You will never find «Greek salad» in these taverns. Greeks usually call it «village» salad or horiatiki salad. There is no particular recipe of this dish but it is usually made of olives, feta cheese, tomatoes and pepper. You can try horiatiki salad in different taverns and compare the taste. Olive oil is added to the salad by the client himself, there is a bottle of oil on each table.
