1. Tourists, who want to dedicate much time to excursions and exploring the resort on foot, should visit Belize in the period starting from December to April. The weather is usually nice on these months, and the chance of heavy rains is minimal.
2. Export and import of antiquities are possible only if you have special permitting documents. When purchasing antiquities in local shops, it is recommended to ask the seller whether any documents are required for export.
3. It is recommended to use only bottled drinking water that is sold in every supermarket or groceries store. In local cafes and restaurants, tourists are better not to order juices and cocktails with ice.
4. Corals, seashells, and items made of turtle shell are also considered valuables in Belize. Only shops with a special permission can sell these items. They also provide buyers with all necessary documents that allow export. It is not recommended to buy these items from private individuals and street vendors.
6. Tourists are not recommended to make excursions to distant neighborhoods of the town on their own and stay far away from the hotel late in the evening.
7. The majority of shops and trading centers are open from Monday to Friday. Their usual working hours are 8:00 to 20:00 or 21:00. Some shops close for a lunch break that usually lasts from 12:00 to 13:00. Large shopping centers and supermarkets can be open on Saturdays as well.
8. The majority of restaurants include a service fee in the bill. As a rule, tips do not exceed 10-15% of the total. Tourists can also leave an extra tip to a waiter. In this case, the size of this extra tip should be not more than 10% of the total.
9. During excursions to nature reserves, it is recommended to listen to guides carefully. Many plants are precious, so damaging them may result in a large fine.
10. Don’t forget to bargain on local markets. In order to make it easier to pay to sellers, it is better to stock up on paper money in small denominations.
11. Waiters in restaurants are used to numerous foreign visitors, so they will gladly help tourists to select a meal, describe ingredients, and will answer all questions that visitors may have.
