Definitely visit Ascoli Piceno city, if you don’t want to miss a chance to visit the place, which existed before Rome was built. The locals are very proud of that fact. Besides the walks in the old city center and visits to the many local museums, you should take a look at Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Arringo. Those squares are very beautiful and show the spirit of ancient Italy. In Porto San Giorgio you will see the Medieval buildings, as the city was hardly rebuilt since the 11th century. The same about Fermo – a couple of decades ago they had still been using rainwater harvesting system, constructed by the Romans.
In Ancona pay attention to Mole Vanvitelliana. Built in the 18th century, this place has already been a hospital, a prison, and barracks, and a tobacco factory. Now it is opened for tourists. Not far from Mole there is Porta Pia, a great example of Baroque architecture, which was also built in the 18th century. There is also the Citadel in Ancona – a fortress, built at the beginning of the 16th century and perfectly-preserved until the present time. The most famous monument of Ancona is the Arch of Trajan, a unique construction, which over lived the Roman Empire for centuries. It was built in the 1st century, and though it lost some of its décors because of the actions of the Huns and the Saracens, is still in its original form. Near Ancona, there are also ruins of an old amphitheater from the times of the height of the Roman Empire. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
