Madagascar is not famous as a country for sightseeing. There is nothing strange in this because there are not many historic and architectural landmarks here. All the main attractions of the country are in some way or another connected with nature. These are national parks, reserves, forests, coastal areas, and all kinds of activities associated with them. The Rova of Antananarivo (Rova Ambohimanga) is a fabulous palace complex that is widely recognized among the main landmarks of the capital city. The complex includes the twin palaces of Manjakamiadana, as well as such palaces as Mahitsielafanjaka, Tranovola, and Manampisoa. This is where visitors can see gorgeous tombs of Malagasy rulers. The presidential palace is fabulous, but the complex of ministry buildings is no less amazing. The prime-minister’s palace and the old building of the main library also deserve a mention.
Do you want to indulge yourself into local art in order to feel the real Malagasy heritage? In this case, do not forget to visit Isotry Theater. It is open on Rakotomanga Street. Are you fond of museum exhibitions? In this case, don’t forget to visit museums that are open in the island’s capital. There are interesting archaeological and paleontological exhibitions, and art gallery, and the Museum of Photography of Madagascar. In Moramanga, there is quite an unusual museum - Musee de la Gendarmerie Nationale. The venue is dedicated to important events in social and everyday lives of Malagasy people. Surprisingly, but the Nosy Be Archipelago, which is also a part of Madagascar, by the way, has several more cultural landmarks that tourists will find interesting to visit. The islands are located to the north-east of the country. The archipelago consists of several islands of different size, with Nosy Be being the largest one. Here, in the main city of the island, Adoany, tourists can visit a fantastic center dedicated to oceanographic studies.
