Leeuwarden offers its guests excellent conditions for an active, exciting vacation. Within the city, you will find numerous entertainment centers to suit every taste, and out of it, there are magnificent parks and reserves. The largest and most popular park is De Groene Ster formed in the 60s of the last century. Now the park occupies an area of about 1,000 hectares, it is a real multipurpose outdoor recreation center. It boasts many hiking and cycling trails, as well as well-equipped areas for picnicking and playing sports games. The main decoration of the park is magnificent ponds and lakes, on the banks of which comfortable beaches are equipped in the warm season. Everyone can enjoy many spacious areas with a soft lawn, which are especially popular among tourists with children. Besides that, several pastures can be found in the park. A few years ago, a large water park opened in this picturesque place. A prestigious golf center called Green Star is located here too. In the summer, several campsites open in the park so all nature enthusiasts have the opportunity to stay in the picturesque corner for a few days. Not far from the city center is the charming Prinsentuin Park surrounded by numerous canals. A large complex of defensive structures was once located on the site of the park, but with the advent of peace, it lost its original significance.
