Debrecen is the second largest city of Hungary in terms of population. This place has been always famous for its rebellious spirit and craving for freedom. The inhabitants of Debrecen did not accept kings and emperors and the majority of them decided to change the faith from Catholic to Calvinism. Kossuth Lajos was the main Hungarian revolutionary, who proclaimed the independence of Hungary in famous until our days Calvinist cathedral. The architecture of the city is different from other cities of Hungary as here you will not find many details and decorations, but the grandiosity of buildings is really impressive. Calvinist Square that is also the beginning of Piac Street, is known by its amazing houses and street lights decorated with baskets of flowers.

Among the multiple local sights and place of interest we should mention the largest Reformed Church in Hungary and the reformed college organized nearby, Deri Museum (exhibits large collection of ethnographic and archeological items and pictures), the Calvinist Library with stock exceeding 300 thousand books including rare incunabula, and much more.

There is a magnificent Alfold Park in the northern part of the city. A great place for walking will be Market Street. It begins near the railway station and comes to an end at Kalvin Square. Back in the 19th century, the cattle market was located on this street, and today it attracts tourists with a variety of historical buildings built in different periods. In summer, a handicraft market works on this street. It can be visited on weekends. The square itself is of considerable interest. Interesting entertaining events are held on it, on holidays.

The Most interesting religious and architectural monument is the Red church. This Protestant church, built of red brick, astonishes with its impressive size. It was built in 1887. The height of the tower of the Neo-Gothic church is 58.5 meters and can be seen from many city streets. The ancient church is noteworthy also for its interior decoration. Century-old frescoes with biblical motives were preserved in it. Within the walls of the huge church, up to 800 people can be accommodated at a time. Next to the outstanding religious building is a large picturesque park, which will be perfectly suitable for rest.

Equally interesting is The Reformatory Church – the biggest reformatory temple in the country, which can accommodate up to 5,000 people at the same time. Despite the fact that the cathedral is not distinguished by a special luxurious decoration, it attracts a huge number of tourists. Many religious artifacts and valuable historical relics, including Layosh Koshshut's chair are stored within its walls. In front of the cathedral is a very beautiful square with benches and fountains.

The Public Cemetery Debrecen is among the most beautiful sights in the city. It represents a magnificent architectural and park complex. Externally, the cemetery is more like a chic city park, where you can see everywhere huge pools, elegant benches and ancient sculptures. On the territory of the cemetery, there is a crematorium building, which is considered a true architectural masterpiece of the early 20th century. In the warm season, the territory of the cemetery is always decorated with luxurious flower beds. Some of its places offer a magnificent view of the city. The cemetery was founded in 1915, and since 1981 it has been considered a historical monument of national importance.
