Winter in the country begins exactly on the 1st of December. The air temperature drops sharply and it begins to snow in some regions. January is considered to be the coldest month. During this period, the air temperature in the Capital does not exceed -6°C and it is around -13°C in the Lake Sevan’s region. Yerevan and its neighboring regions are the coldest; the temperature here can drop down to as low as -30°C. The higher the level of land above the sea, the more snow there will be in the mountains. In some areas, the snow lasts until the middle of April. With the arrival of February, the weather begins to warm up gradually. The number of sunny days increases and the weather becomes clear. On average, the air temperature can warm up to within 0-3°C.
Spring in the plains is first observed at the start of March. Then again, it reaches the mountainous areas only in the first days of April. Nature immediately wakes from hibernation and wonderful green grass cover the landscape. The average daily air temperature does not exceed 12°C. As of March, temperature in the highlands still does not go beyond-1°C. Gardens begin to bloom in April, filling the air with delicious fragrant aromas. The daytime air temperature in the lowlands at this time is already between 18-19°C. However, a thaw begins in the mountainous regions and the temperature rises up to 5°C. In general, a lot of precipitation falls throughout Armenia in April. However, the weather in spite of everything is mostly sunny and comfortable. In May, the weather becomes even warmer. Summer in the plains of Armenia comes with the beginning of June, but only on the last days of the month is it experienced in the mountainous regions. Generally, a lot of precipitation falls in this same month of June across the whole territory. The weather becomes very volatile and unstable. During the day, the air temperature reaches 27°C and at night it cools down to 16°C. In the mountains, 17°C is observed during the day. The highest temperature is recorded in July. The temperature reaches 28°C on the plains, and in the mountain regions, 18-19°C. In August, the same stable hot weather remains, except that the air temperature in the mountainous areas gradually begins to decrease at night. With the onset of autumn, the exhausting heat decreases but it is still warm. On average, the air temperature during this period is about 22°C. At night, it is already much colder (the temperature can drop even to 9-10°C). In general, the weather is quite comfortable as there is not a lot of precipitation during this period. With the arrival of October, the temperature drops to 18°C and frosts are observed in the mountainous regions at night. In November, the temperature rarely reaches an index of 10°C. The first frosts are also observed on the plains at night. Most of the precipitation during this period falls in the Syunik region. On the other hand, there is usually no precipitation in the Ararat valley until the beginning of winter.
