At a glance, Argentina may look less “exotic” than the rest of South America, and the country’s residents can proudly tell tourists how big the European influence on their country and nation was. Some people say that Argentina is the most American of all European colonies and the most European of all American countries. However, the country has its unique heritage and atmosphere that is reflected in the national character that is proud and passionate. Indeed, football and politics are dominating themes in modern Argentinian society. Not everyone dances tango or is crazy about Evita and equitation. However, it doesn’t matter where tourists go, they will be surely impressed by Argentinian passionate approach to own culture and interest in the outer world.
Plaza de Mayo in one of the main landmarks in the country’s capital, Buenos Aires. This is a legendary place with a special atmosphere that is made to wander, watch people, visit ethnic shops, and simply enjoy the moment. Numerous barrios (neighborhoods) of the capital are very different – some of them are incredibly old-fashioned, the rest are incredibly modern, but all of them are interesting to explore. Other main cities of the country that tourists should visit are the following: colonial Salta on the north-west, Rosario, and Ushuaia that is not only the southernmost city in the world but also a spectacular place with a fantastic waterfront of the Beagle Chanel. To see and explore these places, tourists need to use the well-developed infrastructure of the country that is very comfortable thanks to decades of domestic tourism. Partially because of the growing hotel supply, the quality and range of hotels have been improved. Tourists can book elegant ranchos known as fincas on the north of the country. This is luxurious accommodation for travelers who do not want to save on quality. In most destinations, tourists prefer to contact local tour agencies that offer a broad range of entertaining activities including horse-riding, camping, rafting, kayaking, skiing, and paragliding. Of course, it is possible to choose something more relaxing, for example, wine sampling, bird watching or safari. Argentina has so many options for diverse recreation that no wonder why many travelers want to visit this amazing country again.
However, the real beauty of this country is hidden away from popular destinations. Pristine wild nature of Argentina is its true treasure. Tourists can see monkeys and toucans in northern jungles in the morning and then see penguins “sledding” into icy South Atlantic at noon. In Argentina, there are hundreds of bird types, including the Andean condor and three flamingo species, puma, armadillo, lama, fox, and tapir that live in forests, mountains, and breathtaking areas like Altiplano or Puna. Green tea plantations, dried dams, palm tree groves and icebergs, and some of the most powerful waterfalls in the world – these are just some of the sceneries that guests can see in this country. Dozens of biosystems are protected by a chain of national reserves.

The Jesuit Block and Estancias of Cordoba

From the series “Famous Unesco Sites in South America”
Those who love to explore the historical sights will like walking around the Jesuit Block, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Cordoba. The quarter is a complex of survived buildings constructed by Jesuit missionaries. The building of the National University that is one of the oldest in South America has preserved there too. In addition, here you can see a building of an old school, a few surviving houses and an old church.

The main part of the historical buildings that can be seen today, was built in the first half of the 17th century. The quarter went completely deserted in 1767, when Charles III signed a decree on the expulsion of the Jesuits. All constructions of the area came under the jurisdiction of the state; only a few of them managed to survive to the present day. A … Read all

Cueva de las Manos Cave

From the series “Famous Unesco Sites in South America”
The Spanish name of Cueva de las Manos can be translated as Cave of Hands. This cave is one of the most interesting in the world from the paleontological point of view. Researchers have found there many ancient rock paintings, including numerous images of human hands. Scientists estimate that the age of some cave paintings is more than 10 000 years. This shows that the cave has been inhabited by people for thousands of years.

During the years of research, scientists were able to decipher a significant part of rock carvings, including images of hands. According to their hypothesis, hands were painted with a special mineral paint by teenage boys during initiation rites. Over the years, the cave remained a sacred place for local residents. The most important religious ceremonies took place … Read all
