In 1482, The Portuguese people were the first to board the coast of Angola. Later, Portugal competed with Holland for the right to own the new lands for many years. Despite multiple wars and indigenous people’s discontent, Portugal was holding control over Angola for hundreds of years. The country gained independence only in 1975.
