Jallianwala Bagh is one of these symbolic places. In 1919, a sad event happened on the site of today’s park. One of the biggest rebellions took place in Amritsar at that time. The British fired their rifles into unarmed locals who were fighting for the independence of their homeland. Almost 400 people were killed and over 1200 people were injured during the event known today as the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
