Although Alghero is a relatively small town, it is rich in historic attractions. Cattedrale di Santa Maria or Alghero Cathedral is a fabulous architectural landmark in the Gothic style, which is situated in the main town square. The cathedral was built in the 16th century when this region was occupied by Spain. That is why it is so easy to see elements of the traditional Catalan architecture in the design of this church.
