Sightseeing in Kuta - what to see. Complete travel guide

In southern Bali, Indonesia, tourists can visit the marvelous resort of Kuta. This destination is particularly popular with young travelers. Although it is hard to call this resort calm or tranquil, tourists enjoy visiting it all year round. As a rule, people come here to relax on the beach, sunbathe, and swim in the warm water of the Indian Ocean. Besides that, this is a favorite destination for surfers because the area near Kuta is perfectly suitable for this kind of sport. Finally, affordable prices are one more reason to visit this paradise-like place.
Kuta was a small village until 1936. Local people were mostly farmers and fishermen. Once, a couple from the United States, the Kokes, was traveling in Bali and visited the poor village. The beautiful Indonesian region deeply impressed them, and so they decided to build several bungalows and offer them for rent for other tourists. Soon after that, one more American girl decided to build a hotel in the village. However, the period of Japanese occupation, which started in 1942, changed all plans. The hotel and bungalows were destroyed.
A new hotel opened in Kuta only in the mid-20th century. Its name was Kuta Beach. For long twelve years, this hotel was the only accommodation available for foreign tourists. The popularity of the hippie movement was like a breath of fresh air for the resort. When looking for a job in Asia, hippies reached a strange place where hotels didn’t have any electric lighting until the 60s of the 20th century. Because of this, hippies couldn’t stay in the village at night. They were sunbathing in Kuta in the daytime and returning to Denpasar after sunset every day. Kuta locals started offering their own houses for rent for tourists. The first comfortable hotels in the resort appeared at the end of the 20th century. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
Where can tourists relax in Kuta? There are four most popular beaches on the coast of the Indian Ocean. The urban village’s beach is the first one. It is widely recognized as one of the best beaches in Indonesia. Every year, gold sand and comfortable wide coast attract thousands of tourists to Kuta. There are many trees near the beach that protect vacationers from the scorching heat. Kuta Beach has a well-developed infrastructure, so this coastal area is suitable not only for leisure sunbathing but also for having fun and participating in various local entertainments.
Is surfing an essential activity for you during a beach vacation? If the answer is “yes”, Kuta is the right place to visit. Tourists can always rent surfing equipment right at the beach. If you are expecting to find high waves, we are going to disappoint you because the ocean is calm near this beach. This makes Kuta Beach an ideal choice for beginners and children who want to try surfing. The beach doesn’t close after sunset. Many people come to Kuta Beach at this time of the day in order to enjoy a mesmerizing picture. Once the sun dips below the horizon, vacationers usually move to numerous bars and discos.
Legian is another coastal area that is suitable for beach recreation. Situated just north of Kuta, Legian is less crowded. If you are searching for high waves, Legian will not disappoint you. Soft white sand and a comfortable area for swimming only add popularity to this beach. There are sun umbrellas and loungers available for rent.
When planning to visit Legian, tourists need to keep in mind that sometimes the waves are so high that it is not possible even to swim near the coast. The beach rescue team keeps an eye on vacationers and doesn’t let them risk their lives so recklessly. Only experienced surfers are allowed to ride the waves on such days. Surfing equipment rental offices work near the beach and are always ready to provide vacationers with everything they need. Despite such a peculiarity of Legian, this is a great beach to enjoy serenity and solitude. It is seldom crowded.
Kuta Theater welcomes residents and guests of the resort every evening. It regularly offers fantastic and colorful shows with the Balinese lights. All performances include pleasant music and traditional dances. Impressive visual effects turn the performances of the theatre’s actors into unforgettable shows, each of which lasts approximately one hour. Even if you are not a connoisseur of theater arts, these performances will not leave you indifferent.
There is an international airport approximately fifteen minutes from the central part of Kuta. It is easy to reach the resort by taxi. Other cities and towns in Bali have intercity buses to Kuta. It is also possible to reach the resort from the nearby port of Benoa located approximately twenty minutes away. A motorboat takes passengers between these two settlements.
