The center of the eponymous Swiss canton is situated on the foothill of Zugerberg Mount on the shore of picturesque Zugerzee approximately 425m above the sea level. In the Middle Ages, the city was surrounded by impregnable walls, some fragments of which have been preserved to this day. You can see one of the biggest masonry fragments in the historic district of Nopfliturm. In the 16th century, the defensive wall was constructed here. There are also preserved original wooden parapets that have been recently reconstructed.
In the historic district, there is the Old City Hall built 500 years ago. It has also preserved a lot of unique decorative elements, including high wooden windows. The City Hall is four-storied. On its ground floor, there was the market at one time. The upper floors have always belonged to officials.
The defense towers of Zug built in the Middle Ages and preserved to this day is very interesting too. Searching and studying them may become an exciting quest. The most unusual one is the Old Powder Tower. Its wall thickness is 2.7 m, which exactly makes it such an incomparable site. There are also the Capucine and Gulliver Tower. They both were built in the 16th century.
The main nature attraction of the city is Zug Lake. It is very interesting to walk around the lake at any time of the year. Tourists can take part in more entertainments in summer. At this time, you can relax at the beach on the lake shore or boat here. You can walk here in any season and strolls on the lake shores will bring you a lot of impressions.
As for incomparable architectural monuments, the old Castle Burg Zug is worth being mentioned. In summer, the guests of Zug have an opportunity to visit the Holgrot Caves located in the city surroundings. They are quite big.
