The Waterford Museum of Treasures occupies one of the most beautiful historical buildings. Its opening took place in 1999. In 1986, archaeological research was conducted in the center of the city, and many amazing artifacts were discovered. All of them are represented in the museum nowadays. Temporary exhibits on a wide range of subjects are regularly held there, as well. There is also a theater in a large historical building, plus they have a cozy cafe where one can relax after a tour. Lismore Castle is a beautiful sample of Gothic architecture, built in 1185 on orders from King John. In the middle of the 18th century, the Duke of Devonshire was the owner of the old fortress. During this period its first major reconstruction took place. Currently, the old castle covers an area of about 60000 sq. m. Almost all rooms are open for tourists. The castle is surrounded by a lush garden, so warm season is the best time to visit it. The Medieval Museum is considered one of the most extraordinary cultural institutions in the city. Its guests are greeted by experienced guides dressed in unusual ancient costumes. The place itself is more like an original entertainment center. Visitors are offered to take a little walk around the halls and corridors where the medieval atmosphere was restored and to see collections of old-fashioned clothes and jewelry.
