One of the youngest cities in Montenegro, Tivat has started accepting visitors not so long ago. However, rapid development together with wide choice of interesting and beautiful places has quickly brought positive results. Nowadays vast majority of tours in Montenegro include a visit to this cozy and beautiful city.
One of the major attractions of the city is located in the central part of Tivat. We are talking about a summer house called Renaissance Buca. The house is surrounded by a beautiful park, so during warm months you can see local residents and visitors, who enjoy rest or picnics in the shade. Ostrvo Cvijeca - Flower Island – is very popular among holidaymakers. This is a wonderful piece of nature, where you can see tremendous flowers of unusual shape and color. Besides this there are some ancient monuments in the park.
The excursion program should definitely include visiting Tivat Botanical Gardens – a true pride of Montenegro. Sailors have brought here unusual plants from all over the world, and each of them has found its place in this wonderful garden. Such a diversity of plants and trees is hard to find in any other park of Montenegro. A large pomegranate grove is considered the heart of the park – this is a real paradise.
Travelers who are crazy about scenic routes prefer excursions to the ancient fishing village of Lepetani. The first mention of the village dates back to 1439. Since the Middle Ages, many beautiful stone structures have survived there, as well as an old church. At present time, the main means of livelihood is sea fishing as it used to be before. For a small fee, fishermen are always ready to take tourists with them.
St. Sava Church is an important religious monument for Tivat. Its construction began in 1938 and lasted 30 years. The church is a gorgeous monument in the Byzantine style with an area of more than 7500 sq.m. The height of the luxurious construction is 65 meters. Thanks to the huge dome, the church is one of the most recognizable religious sites in the world.
During the warm season, walks along the slopes of Mount Vrmac are very popular. The mount is one of the most picturesque places in the city. Here, you can admire beautiful trees and rare plants. The ascent to the mountain does not require any special training. At the top is a beautiful observation deck. It is the best spot to enjoy a view of the ancient 800-year-old church.
Zupa park is a perfect place for secluded rest. It is popular among tourists and local residents. A private place for a picnic or a relaxing holiday can be easily found on its territory. Local residents often take care of goats there. The park lacks any modern infrastructure. You can relax the whole day in silence, enjoy the beauty of the magnificent cypress and pines.
In the vicinity of the city, is situated the world-famous Ostrog rock monastery. All of its rooms have been manually carved by monks right in the rock. Within its 1000-year-old walls, unique religious relics are kept. They attract pilgrims from all over the world. Absolutely everyone can visit the ancient monastery as a guided tour.
Another ancient monastery is located on the miniature island of Gospa od Milo. Its length is only 147 meters, and the width is 80 meters. Back in the 15th century, a convent was founded there. The statue of the Virgin Mary made of wood has been considered its main relic since the foundation. The statue was created by one of the local craftsmen in the 14th century.
