The rich cultural and historical heritage of Stuttgart has found expression in its unique sights. Here there are picturesque streets with an abundance of architectural monuments and old religious buildings, fabulous palaces and interesting museums. Königstrasse and Marktplatz are ideal for hiking; interesting architecture landmarks can be found here at every turn. Among architectural monuments Altes Schloss is the indisputable leader; it is located in the center of Stuttgart and resembles a solid fortress. The first fortification in its place has been built in the mid-10th century; in the 14th century it was expanded and served as the residence of the Württemberg Counts. The castle was badly damaged during the Second World War, but through the efforts of modern architects it was fully restored by 1971. Schloss Solitude deserves special attention and it can be safely called the most prominent monument of the 18th century. This is an incredibly beautiful building in the Baroque style; a long time the castle housed a military school. Among religious buildings, Leonhardskirche and Domkirche St. Eberhard are considered the most spectacular; they have managed to preserve the original look. The Landesmuseum Württemberg invites tourists to get acquainted with the history and culture of the city. Art lovers will like Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
