According to one of the legends the construction of the cathedral was initiated by the King Jaime I the Conquistador. The King built the Cathedral in recognition of Santa Maria for the divine salvation in a severe storm. The same beautiful historical landmark of the tourist destination is considered to be the Royal Palace of La Almudaina (Palacio Real de La Almudaina). The palace is located in close vicinity to the Cathedral. The building of the palace is the oldest construction on the territory of the island as the first fortifying construction was erected on its place as far back as in 2nd century B.C.E.
The palace features not only bright and impressive frontage but an ingenious interior design. Its walls keep a rich collection of the art objects, antique furniture and military attributes. The Bellver Castle (Castillo de Bellver) is located on one of the high hills of the island. The castle was erected in the first part of the 14th century.
