A small, cozy town can offer its guests a wonderful tourist attraction - namely, Rumpenheimer Schloss. In 1674, the complex of buildings was bought by the head of the County of Hanau Johann Georg Seifert von Edelsheim who started rebuilding manor houses into a castle. The estate was expanded in 1771 and 1788, and corner pavilions and royal stables were added to the castle in the early 19th century. The building is a truly historic one - in the 19th century, it was visited by such nobles as the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph, the Russian Tsar Alexander III, the Danish monarchs Christian IX and Frederick VII. The castle fell into decay after the Austro-Prussian War and was badly damaged by bombing during the Second World War. The building was finally restored only by the 1970s. In 1995, a beautiful park was restored around the castle.
