Lapland is a recognized center of winter recreation, but those who prefer to devote considerable time to excursions would enjoy the region. It’s worth to start discovering sights with the region's capital, Rovaniemi; the house of Santa Claus is its principal symbol. The tour program has to include a visit to the Museum of the Northern Lights, which is situated in Pohiyan Kruunu; the museum promises to be very informative. Even the smallest town has its unique attractions. The amazing Lappish museum is situated on the shores of Lake Inari. It is a large-scale open air cultural center, where you can see replicas of the old houses of local fishermen and reindeer herders. The museum introduces craft traditions and customs of indigenous people of Lapland; its exhibits include ancient weapons, household utensils and handicrafts. Not far from the lake there is another prominent attraction, Pielpajarvi Wilderness Church. It was built in the 17th century; the last large-scale reconstruction of religious buildings was held in the second half of the 18th century. Several hundred years ago, the church was located near the old cemetery; now the latest is gone. An important cultural center is located in the picturesque village of Tankavaara; we are talking about the Museum of the prospectors featuring World of Gold exhibition.
