They settled down here, forming a state that existed until the 40s of the 8th century. During the Middle Ages, the Habsburg dynasty became the ruler in the region. Only when the Austro-Hungarian Empire stopped existing, the Slovenian state joined the Kingdom of Serbian, Croatian, and Slovenian peoples that eventually became a new country, Yugoslavia.
