Formigal is a mountain ski resort in Spain that has gained worldwide recognition. The beautiful place is a part of the Aragon Pyrenees. It has become a good old tradition to spend family vacations here. The ski resort is also suitable for beginners who only want to learn how to ski. Formigal always has a range of activities for its guests, making sure that everyone can relax both physically and emotionally. The resort has such a charming atmosphere that every visitor feels like home here. The choice of attractions and entertainment is also wide enough, so no one will be bored both in the daytime and at night.
The idea to build a ski resort in this part of the Aragon Pyrenees appeared quite long ago, more than fifty years ago. Investors decided to give their money for building a new resort where people could ski and have fun. Fortunately, the area was perfectly suitable for this. Many restaurants and hotel owners became interested in opening their business in Formigal. That is why the first hotel opened here just two years after the establishment of the resort. Initially, only Spanish people were arriving in Formigal in order to spend their vacations or weekends here. However, when Aramon, a large corporation, became interested in Formigal, the small resort started growing and developing at a fast pace.
What pistes can this resort offer to vacationers? Formigal offers marked ski paths for everyone regardless of age. The resort is divided into three zones that are connected to each other. These are Crestas, Anayet, and El Portalet. Special buses – ski buses – connect these areas. Each of the zones mentioned above has a well-developed ski infrastructure, so vacationers can easily find the equipment they need directly on spot. Moreover, it doesn’t matter where you decide to ski because each of the zones has a kindergarten where vacationers can leave their children while they are skiing. Professional and experienced babysitters make sure that children are safe and not bored.
A ridge divides Crestas into two separate parts. The left one is called Tres Hombres. This is the most suitable area for sportsmen and ski experts. This is where the Alpine Junior World Ski Championship takes place. The right part of the zone is the location of a snow park. Do you like snowboarding? In this case, you need to choose this zone because there are ski-jump ramps, different slopes for snowboarders, and sharp turns. If you get higher, on the right ridge, you can try freeriding. Needless to say, this is recommended for experienced snowboarders only.
Tres Hombres has one more attraction – the highest point in the resort. The peak of this mountain has an elevation of 2,250 m. It is not that easy to get to the top, but the view of the surroundings from above is very rewarding. While standing on the peak, it is so easy to understand why winter is a magical time of the year. It is even possible to see gorges in the French Pyrenees from this point. If you enjoyed the view and want to continue admiring the natural beauty of the resort, it is time to visit El Portalet.
Are you in a mood for some entertainment? Formigal is very popular with Spanish youth. In recent years, more young people from other countries started visiting this resort. Many of them know about Disco Marchica. It is open in El Portalet and is widely recognized as the best way to relax after a tough day of skiing. Such venues have a special term to describe them – Apres-Ski.
On top of this, the traditions of hot Ibiza are alive and cherished in the snowy Spanish valley. The Anayet zone is a popular location of daily open-air concerts, and everyone is welcome to attend them. Do you want to listen to popular electronic music? Welcome to any of the local restaurants that play pleasant tunes on their open terraces.
