Main entrance gate of Old Medina is a symbolic architectural monument. It conventionally divides the city into two parts - the old and the new one. The gorgeous gate is part of the remaining fortification walls, that were built to protect the city as early as the 11th century. The gate, which guests of Fez can see today, once served as the main entrance to the city. Its recent restructuring took place in 1912 when there was no longer need to build the gate resistant and impenetrable. Much attention was paid to the decorative design.
