In France, there is a resort that attracts a big number of guests all year round. This area has a beautiful name – Deauville. The resort has been recognized as one of the most prestigious in France. The city has become famous thanks to international film festivals that take place here every year. Besides them, the resort hosts horse racing competitions and regattas. Nowadays, Deauville is a historical center that is ideal for not only sightseeing but also beach recreation. It is worth noting that many French film stars enjoy visiting Deauville to spend their free time here.
The history of the French city with a celebrity status started in the 19th century. Until that time, there was a small village on the site of the modern settlement. Local people were mostly engaged in farming at that time. In 1853, when the Duke of Morny – a politician and half-brother of Napoleon III – became ill, his doctor advised him on finding a place where his disease would not develop. The duke arrived in the French village. Having examined the territory and the area, Morny decided that he couldn’t find a better place. This is when the development of a new seaside resort started.
The territory of Deauville was a conventional division. A beach, the length of which is several kilometers, occupies one part of the resort. A magnificent waterfront represents the second part of Deauville. This is the location of numerous restaurants, bars, and various cafes. Promenade Des Planches is an iconic landmark of the resort, so it is simply unapologetic to visit Deauville and forget to walk on this tropical wood boardwalk. The length of the promenade is almost two kilometers. That is why it is incredibly exciting and comfortable to walk here. The fresh and cool sea breeze makes any stroll particularly pleasant.
The promenade was built in the 20s of the 20th century. This is a kind of a French “Hollywood boulevard” because there are autographs and writings of famous personalities and film stars on dressing cabins installed along the coast. Needless to say, tourists enjoy looking at them and take pictures of these autographs. Many come to the promenade with the sole purpose of looking at these writings. Moreover, if you are lucky enough, you can meet Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu here.
Magnificent houses, the look of which is reminiscent of buildings from a fairytale, have become a true pride of Deauville. Each house has a different design. The city’s administration is open in one of these buildings. If you take a closer look at this mansion, you will notice that the building is similar to a small medieval castle. Spiked turrets decorate the building’s roof. Outside, the building has a sand color, but the interior décor mostly features bold Burgundy shades. Gorgeous fruit trees with big red apples complete the look of this fabulous fairytale building.
When it is evening in Deauville and the city administration closes, local kinds gather on the main square in front of the building in order to have fun here. Do you want to see the place where the resort’s authorities think about the future of Deauville? Tourists can enter the building twice a week – on Tuesday evening and on Friday morning. This is a unique opportunity to see the town’s administration, walk in the building’s corridors, and see everything in detail. From time to time, tourists can even attend meetings of the city council.
Are you ready to see how lucky you are? Welcome to the main landmark of Deauville – a casino that shares its name with the resort. Every evening, the casino attracts all people who want to “hit the big time”. The Deauville casino remembers many sad stories about people who lost everything they had and left the venue penniless. That being said, there are also legends about enormous luck and huge winnings. In the casino, visitors can bet with their money or simply attend the show that the casino is famous for – Deauvillisimo. The venue also has a disco and a restaurant with various local delicacies.
In order to get to Deauville as soon as possible, take a car ride from Paris. The distance to the resort from the capital of France is roughly two hundred kilometers. Take road A13 and you will be in Deauville in two hours. The Gare Saint-Lazare, a train station in Paris, has daily trains to Deauville. Naturally, after arrival in Paris, tourists can get a taxi or rent a car.
