Be sure to visit the Castle of Chios. The castle was constructed in the medieval period with its first construction phase having started in the 10th century by the Byzantines. The structures surviving to this day are part of later construction and expansion dated to the time when the Genoese ruled the island during the 14th to the 16th century. This structure survived the devastating earthquake in 1881. This monumental building will impress kids who saw the castles of the knights only in history books, and those who love tales about brave warriors, dragons and princesses.
Take your child to Mastichochoria. A number of fortified settlements were raised here in the Middle Ages in order to protect against pirates.
