It was created in 1963, when the threat of the complete disappearance of Alpine mountain goats, living on the slopes of the mountains in the territory of the modern park, arose. In one of the two parts of the park are ski resorts, one of the most famous and popular of which is Meribel. In addition to alpine goats, the park is inhabited by chamois, lynx, ermines, as well as alpine marmots.
