Sightseeing in Brighton - what to see. Complete travel guide

The beautiful English city of Brighton is comfortably situated on the coast of the English Channel. Nowadays, this is an internationally famous resort destination approximately eighty kilometers away from the capital of the United Kingdom. Every year, a big number of tourists and vacationers visit this city in order to relax at comfortable beaches, sunbathe in the rays of the tender sun, and simply forget about urban stress and all troubles. In Brighton, you will find trendy restaurants, hotels, and a great number of various shops. The city has an active nightlife, so Brighton is suitable for party-goers.
The history of the city started in the middle of the 18th century when Richard Russell, a British physician, published his work, in which he described the healing effect of seawater and its positive impact on health. He recommended patients to take sea baths in Brighton. This gave a boost to a small town that slowly started evolving into a popular resort. Prince and then King of the United Kingdom George IV liked this settlement, and so Brighton started developing even faster. The king visited this town many times and spent much time here.
Thanks to the king, Brighton got one of its major landmarks – the Royal Pavilion. The first railroad in the region appeared in 1841. The railroad made it easy for residents of London to visit the resort. This important event made Brighton even more popular, and its population quickly doubled. The territory of Brighton increased in 1997 because the town of Hove made a unitary authority with the city. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
Do you like beautiful beaches? Brighton is a gorgeous place that is always crowded. However, a big number of vacationers doesn’t mean that a holiday in Brighton will be disappointing. The majority of people want to return to the city after visiting it at least once. During the daytime, you can enjoy warm sun, swim, and spend a great time with your family, having fun at comfortable pebble beaches. At night, Brighton offers a range of interesting activities, such as watching films at the seaside.
The beach looks great and is very clean and comfortable because many celebrities and famous people enjoy visiting it. In order not to lose their reputation, the city’s authorities take care of this coastal area. Do you like sunbathing without any clothes? There is a nudist beach in the southern part of the city. At this beach, you can feel united with nature and remove all clothes that prevent you from true relaxation. August is the best time for beach recreation. The water temperature is too low in other months, so it is not possible to swim. Despite this fact, there are many landmarks that you can explore all year round.
Don’t forget to explore Brighton’s waterfront that is a truly mesmerizing place. This is an eleven-meter-long promenade perfect for a stroll. The waterfront has one of the largest berths in Europe that has enough space for 1,900 yachts. While enjoying a walk on the waterfront, you can visit the Museum of Fishing where you can learn more about the history and traditions of local fishermen. Don’t forget to take a ride on the Ferris wheel that is located near the coast. From the top of the wheel, you will be able to enjoy a striking panorama of the city, the English Channel, and giant white rocks.
As it was mentioned above, the Royal Pavilion is the main landmark of Brighton. When George IV was visiting the city, he initially was staying at a farmer’s house that was small in size. The building turned into a luxurious villa in 1787 and got a neoclassic look after a thorough reconstruction. At that time, the building was famous as the Marine Pavilion.
Twenty-five years later, a new reconstruction turned the pavilion into an Indian Palace. The building got spiked domes on the roof. Inside, it featured white and beige shades and walls covered with Chinese wallpapers. A large chandelier with a silver dragon is, perhaps, the most mesmerizing detail of the inner décor. You can see it in the main hall of the palace that hosts the majority of banquets. Other rooms host an exhibition of the National Museum that tells more about the history of the region.
Tourists can easily fly to the capital of the United Kingdom. London has a regular train connection with Brighton – you will reach the resort after a ride that lasts only one and a half hours. If you prefer buses, the ride will be somewhat longer – up to two hours. The cities have a well-established connection, so it is easy to find a bus or a train that departs at the time that is comfortable for you. Car is not the best vehicle choice in this case because traffic jams are typical in London, and the journey time will be up to three hours.
