For the people of Asuncion, one of the most significant attractions is the Casa de la Independencia, the oldest building in the city. The beautiful colonial mansion was built in the second half of the 18th century. The building is notable for the fact that the independence of Paraguay from Spain was declared within its walls in May 1811.
