The Tabernas Desert has one more informal name, the Almeria Desert, because of the close distance to the city of Almeria. It is a truly unique place. It has mountain air, but the temperature raises up to 45 oC in summer. Strong hot wind and extremely rare rains are also typical for the desert. People have started settling down in this region in the 50s of the 20th century. All buildings in the area have a cowboy theme – most of them were used for filming purposes.
