Rotterdam can offer its guests widest choice of interesting excursions and entertainments. Many attractions are located in the port area. From an architectural point of view the so called Oude Haven houses are very interesting sights, which are great examples of Art Nouveau style. These fancy houses were built relatively not long ago - in 1984 - but already became an important object of almost every excursion in Rotterdam. Visitors are also recommended to visit Van Nellefabriek, an old tobacco factory the building of which was completed in 1931 and lasted six years. The beautiful historic building was completely reconstructed right after the closing of the factory. The reconstruction took place in the beginning of 90s. Among the religious attractions of the city we should definitely mention the Grote of Sint Laurenskerk, near which is located the monument devoted to the famous Erasmus Roterodamus. The beautiful cathedral has miraculously survived during the years of World War II. Many historical places of interest can be found in the Delfshaven quarter. Tiny houses, beautiful squares and canals, windmills and ancient gardens – a walk in this part of the city will be a real journey into the past. Among the cultural institutions of the city we should definitely mention Prince Hendrik Museum, which is dedicated to the marine theme. The collection of ship models, antique maps, atlases and navigational devices includes numerous truly unique exhibits of the early 19th century.
