Traditional Czech cuisine prevails in Ostrava, and the townspeople are not indifferent to the historically established culinary traditions. Most of the dishes that can be tasted at local restaurants have been prepared according to unchanged recipes for hundreds of years. Regional cuisine is considered to be very satisfying, with meat and poultry being everyday for locals. The most popular dish available in literally all local restaurants is Svíčková na smetaně - beef sirloin with cream sauce. It takes several hours to prepare this dish. The meat is simmered in a creamy sauce over low heat to make it incredibly juicy and tender.
