The Luxury Collection Brings Its First Hotel to Budapest

News The capital of Hungary has become the first city in the country to welcome the iconic Luxury Collection brand by Marriott International. The famous hotelier will open its new Luxury Collection property in the spectacular Matild Palace, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, a worthy choice for its debut in Hungary.

The property’s owner, Özyer Group, conducted a five-year-long renovation and transformation that made it possible to open a hotel in this gorgeous building. A team of true professionals including famous interior designer Maria Vafiadis and such local talents as Péter Dajka and Puhl Antal did their best to turn the palace into a luxurious 130-room hotel. The Luxury Collection hotel in Budapest is a heritage place with modern comfort and a decent Hungarian atmosphere. The palace’s location is truly outstanding – it overlooks the Danube River. The interior design has been made specifically to celebrate the rich history of the palace as well as the history of the country.

Matild Palace was built 120 years ago. Her Imperial and Royal Highness Maria Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was the patron of the building. A fine example of the Belle Époque, the palace quickly became an important social hub in Budapest. Today, everyone is welcome to stay at the hotel or visit its restaurant managed by Wolfgang Puck. The star chef will bring his renowned recipes to the capital of Hungary and will also offer traditional dishes with a modern twist. Next month, the hotel’s rooftop bar, the Duchess, will also open its doors, offering exclusive liqueurs and a striking panorama of Budapest. Finally, Matild Café and Cabaret is set to open in September.

There will be 111 spacious rooms and 19 exclusive suites at the hotel. Many rooms offer beautiful views of the Danube River. Each bedroom has high ceilings (4 meters), traditional parquet floors, and opulent bathrooms. The latter have their roots in the thermal baths that Hungary is famous for. Teal, green, gold, and copper are the main shades in the interior design. Guests wishing to try something new can book Loft Guestrooms that are located on the rooftop of the hotel. These rooms have large windows that face the river.

Fans of true luxury will find what they need at this Budapest hotel too. They can book the Crown Tower Suite that has rooms across three floors. This is the first suite in Hungary that has a 48-meter-high tower with 360-degree views of the capital. The entire tower is dedicated to the suite.
