Reykjavik to Host Two Important Esports Events

News If you are a fan of esports and miss traveling, this is your chance. Riot Games, the developer of such popular titles as League of Legends and Valorant, will have not one but two important esports events in the capital of Iceland! Both will take place in May, so all fans of these games still have time to book their flights and hotels in Reykjavik. The news came just after Iceland’s announcement that it would make it easier for travelers to enter the country.

Riot Games is bringing two major esports events to Iceland for the first time. The contests will take place in the Laugardalshöll indoor sporting arena in Reykjavik. It was not easy to be selected for these events as League of Legends and Valorant are extremely popular games with a big fan base around the world. Fifteen cities were competing in the bidding process but Reykjavik was selected.

The game published expressed their delight with the choice. Riot Games is excited to bring its high-level esports events to such a unique country famous for its stunning nature. It is amazing how esport connects people in different parts of the world, making different nations and countries feel united. Iceland’s Convention Bureau for Reykjavík City together with Meet in Reykjavík are in charge of the organizational questions. According to Meet in Reykjavík, the city won the right to host the championships due to three reasons. First of all, Iceland is famous for its success in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Second, the country’s stunning views will make the international broadcast even more appealing. Finally, Reykjavik has the necessary infrastructure for top esports events.

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will start on May 6. This event was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 12 teams from regional leagues will compete with each other until the Grand Finale on May 23. MSI is one of the largest and most important events in the League of Legends calendar.

The second event, The VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Masters Reykjavík, will start soon after the end of MSI, on May 24. For the first time in history, the top ten Valorant teams will meet during a live international championship. The teams will fight for the right to enter Valorant championships that will take place later this year. The event is expected to end on May 30.
